On Saturday August 22nd the small community of Ganmain will showcase the best it has to offer with a large contingent of volunteers hosting the towns major annual event, the Ganmain Show.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

In the main PAVILION you can expect to see a great display of local talent in all sections whether it be farm/garden produce, handicrafts, cooking, or the fine arts and photography. The LIVESTOCK pavilions are also an excellent showcase of the animal production systems within the rural area. The exhibitions which fill the pavilions each year are testament to the community and their willingness to get behind this iconic event and make it the success that it is.

The EQUESTRIAN arena is always a spectacular sight with a large number of horses and riders competing in a wide range of classes from Show Jumping to Light Horses and the Heavyweight CLYDESDALES.

A highlight of the Show this year will be the BULLOCK TEAM. A team of six bullocks will assemble on Saturday morning with “Bullocky” Ron McKinnon in charge of harnessing and taking control of these powerful animals each weighing in at over 1000kg. Ron will be able to talk to the crowd throughout the day explaining how the bullocks were used to transport all kinds of produce and materials in a time when mechanical transport was not so common. The team will be paraded around the grounds with a local wagon in tow for Show goers to view.

The ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE (RFDS) will have a presence at this years Show where they will display the aircraft simulator. The simulator is a life sized replica of the aircraft used by the RFDS in Australia to transport Doctors and medical assistance to remote parts of the country. Patrons will have the chance to enter the cockpit and view first-hand what it is like to be in one of these lifesaving planes.

The QUICK-SHEAR COMPETITON has grown to attract a contingent of shearers from across the Riverina to go head to head for up to $1000 in prize money. The new raised board shearing stage will be in operation this year to improve the spectacle of the shearing competition.

There will be a BUTCHERING DISPLAY showing patrons how lamb is taken from a hanging carcass to the products seen in the butcher shops ready for consumer’s kitchens (how good is that!).

This year a range of lifestyle STALLS have been included in the LADIES MARQUEE granting patrons the opportunity to browse through a range of local goods in a relaxed format. The men will also be catered for with displays of FARM MACHINERY and VINTAGE CARS.

Dogs are another feature of the Show with the CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW attracting a broad range of quality dogs locally and from interstate. The skill of the Yard Dogs and their handlers will also be seen again at the 2015 Show featuring a full line up of Working Dogs competing for a share in an extensive pool of prizes.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDS

OLD KENTUCKY ANIMAL FARM will provide the kids with entertainment throughout the day, granting them the opportunity to touch and hold a range of small farm animals. How cute!

SIDE SHOW ALLEY will bring out the child in all of us with the ever popular DODGEM CARS and other rides guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping.

The youth of the community can get involved with the SHOWGIRL COMPETITION with all age groups up to 17 years able to enter on Show day. Judging will commence for the junior sections at 1.30pm (adjacent to the Main Stage). Entrants aged 18-24 years are required to enter with an expression of interest prior to Show day.

The gates will be open early for competitors and exhibitors with the general public invited to attend from 9am. Judging in the pavilions will commence at 9am until the main pavilion opens at approximately midday at the completion of judging. There is plenty to see prior to midday with horses and dogs in competition from 9am and the Show day atmosphere building during the morning.

The official program and Showgirl Competition commence at 2.30pm on the Main Stage leaving the rest of the afternoon to soak up a bit more of the showtime atmosphere. The LUCKY GATE PRIZE will also be drawn at this time so be sure to get your entries in the barrel next to the Main Stage for your chance to WIN.

The grand finale will be the 6.30pm FIREWORKS display which is expected to go off with a “BANG” (weather permitting), to celebrate 107 years and finish the full day of activities off in style.

The 2014/15 Committee would like to extend a warm welcome to all residents of Ganmain and surrounding districts to support this year’s Show with your attendance and if possible, an entry into this years exhibition.
